Jussi brings more than 25 years of experience with SAS technology. His career with SAS technology began in 1996 at the pharmaceutical company Leiras, where he worked as a statistical programmer. His very first assignment was to install the then-latest SAS version, SAS 6.12, on all 50 PCs in the office. Since then, Jussi has worked with SAS through multiple generations of the technology, from the early SAS versions to the current SAS 9 and the latest SAS Viya platform.
Throughout his career, Jussi has designed and developed data warehouses, data marts, analytical applications, and reporting solutions across a wide range of industries. His expertise covers SAS ETL tools, Base SAS, SAS Macros, SAS analytics, and SAS reporting technologies.

SAS performance optimization
One of Varjus Consulting's key areas of expertise is optimizing long-running SAS programs and ETL processes.
Performance issues often emerge as data volumes grow over time. An ETL process that worked perfectly when it was first implemented may become increasingly slow as the underlying data sets expand. The original program logic may still be functionally correct, but no longer efficient enough for today's data volumes.
A typical example is a daily batch process that no longer completes within the agreed processing window. By analyzing the existing SAS programs and ETL processes, it is often possible to significantly improve performance without changing the underlying business logic.
Simplifying complex SAS programs and projects
Another common challenge is the gradual accumulation of complexity in SAS programs, SAS Data Integration Studio jobs, and SAS Enterprise Guide projects.
A typical scenario starts with a simple “quick-and-dirty” solution created to get a task completed. If the solution works reasonably well, it may be moved into production and left largely unchanged.
